Honoring our Wounded Warriors at Christmas

Here is a note we received today and how you can make a difference.

“For several years my brother and I have elected to donate to some worthy organization or foundation that supports our wounded military and/or their families in lieu of exchanging Christmas gifts.

On November 30th, I was listening to a show on talk radio and the host talked with one of our wounded warriors whose family was greatly helped by Fisher House over a period of several months.  As a result of this interview, I have selected Fisher House to be the recipient of my gift this year.  While searching online, I was reminded that there is a Fisher House of the Emerald Coast.  This year, therefore, I would like to make a small contribution to help you out.”

Please join with this generous donor, who also is a retired USAF officer, in blessing our military families in times of medical need.   Our house becomes a home to approximately 1,000 guests annually and it is through you that this #loveisgoodmedicine takes place.

Destin Woman’s Club donate $10,000

Santa came early yesterday, visiting the Destin Woman’s Club monthly December meeting, where they donated $10,000 from their annual fashion show, Glitz and Glamour. This group of lovely women prepare meals for our guests, host events and participate in many service efforts throughout the community. What a great group of leaders making a difference. Consider joining them…..

Nick’s Birthday

Today, I spoke with Ashley, his wife and it’s one of those calls you get – she wants to honor her husband, stationed at Hurlburt, U28 pilot, she mentions all the work done by Fisher Houses and when he came home……I am thinking injured and then she says “to Dover”….where our fallen come to be honored. Sometimes bad things happen to our best. This family is blessing more military families today in honor of Nicks birthday. Say his name, remember him and his sacrifice.

Words from Guests December 6, 2018

“Thank you Fisher House for “better” lodging.  You are definitely a “home away from home” and much more.  Our stay with you for the past two days has been nothing less than awesome.  The services….from your friendly and welcoming staff (specifically John and Marc) to the amenities offered…is a 5-star rating.  Also, having the hospital right across the street is a plus.  We couldn’t ask for anything more as we wouldn’t want it any other way, especially during a stressful time.  Thanks again for your hospitality.”  It was signed with a huge smiley face.  I am typing with goosebumps…..the impact comfort lodging makes during a medical event, coupled with caring staff…..wow……

“This place has been a blessing. I’ve dealt with many hardships and troubles….and the Fisher House has been my safe haven. They assured me if there was no one else, they would take care of me. Thank you and many blessings.”
